Brief & Context

​

Delivery of an independent living housing scheme for older people, located on a wooded, hillside site, called 'The Glen' in Glounthaune, Cork. This will address the unmet need of an aging population by providing age-appropriate, community-oriented housing that allows residents to downsize while remaining within their established community. Contribution to wider housing supply by freeing up larger family homes within the local area. Establishment of a not-for-profit, trusted housing model focused on long-term community benefit rather than commercial gain. Creation of a development that integrates seamlessly with the village context, respects surrounding residential amenity,

 

TJA’s Response

TJA are working closely with Glounthaune Homes Trust and the local council to develop a proposal that meets the needs of the client as well as the Local Development Plan objectives. The site presents a challenging context for meeting the requirements set out by the planners as well as by the necessities of an independent living development. The proposal must carefully balance unit density with site constraints and high quality architecture.
