Brief & Context

After 15 years in the UK our client is planning their return to where they grew up - now with a young family of their own. Having purchased a 1930s semi-detached house in Cork City the project is about adapting old housing stock for the needs of family life in the twenty-first century.

TJA’s Response

Our focus is on improving the energy efficiency of the property, while updating interiors and providing a new garden room and loft conversion. These will transform the way the house relates to the back garden, as well as organising privacy and connection between adults and children. The material and mechanical updates to the house include new windows throughout, a solar panel system, air source heat pump installation and under-floor heating. A green roof to the new rear extension and rainwater harvesting system also contribute to the sustainable ambitions of the project.
