TJA’s Response

20 years ago Sergison Bates Architects designed this wonderful house in Hackney. Tommy’s sister and her family have been living there for much of that time and in 2023 TJA were asked to design and manage its maintenance. This involved workshopping with SBA to work through details and do justice to their original ideas. The beauty of the building is its low-tech, artful assembly of readily-available materials. But what was easy to find in any builders’ merchant then is now quite hard to come by. This is the tricky but interesting problem we are facing.

Testimonial

“The repairs show Tommy's respect for the ideas that underpinned the house's original design, and his understanding about how the house is used today. Tommy is great to work with because of his care, attention, thoughtfulness and ability to steer through stressful situations on site.”
