Brief & Context

​

Refurbishment and extension of the existing cable workers cottage to improve energy efficiency and suitability for family life in the twenty first century. 

 

TJA’s Response

​

The proposed works include internal reorganisation of the existing house, demolition of the back closet wing, addition of a back extension ranging from one-storey to two-and-a-half, loft conversion into new back dormer, as well as a single-storey outbuilding and rear parking. The scheme balances deep retrofit, extension and refurbishment in a way that builds on the heritage of the protected structure and champions high-quality design. The design aims to not only restore and revitalise the house itself but also supports efforts to catalyse care and renewal in the town.
